I bit the bullet after looking at the Natural Selection 2 site. I’ve pre-ordered a game that is being build in peoples spare time (essentially… I’m being a bit harsh I know.)
Natural Selection blends action and stratergy by incorporating resources, buildings, command elements and good old FPS blasting (or chewing). It was a hugely succesful mod for Half Life, and there is a team of talented guys working hard on this sequel.
It looks very promising! All their cool teaser videos, all the gorgeous artwork – it could be great. I just hope it’s more than a re-skin of the old game, I’d like to see them do some new things with their awesome ideas
I’ve been pratting around on their pre-alpha sneak-ette, here’s some of the screen caps I took. Forgive the resolution, they’re only from the alpha! Nice visuals, atmospheric little environments, time to keep my fingers crossed and see what they come up with next!
To anyone who ever played the origional Natural Selection, go give it a try! It’s still got some servers, theres still fun to be had.

NS besides CS was my mod of choice. I would be happy with a revamp and it does look like they have kept the cramped atmosphere that made the levels so fun to play which would be my fear. recomend to all, nothing quite like a team game of a corridor 6ft tall by 4ft wide, 5 marines at one end unloading all there ammunition into an oncoming horde of wee beasties promtly followed by the Onos ( Death cow/cow of death/ wtf was that? is that its stomach? AM I BEING EATEN?. some of the more common names you will hear it called by
)

Really hope they pick up the pace on this one and it doesn’t fall away into one of those “development outlived the finished product” games.
