Recently announced was the reboot of the MechWarrior franchise. Based on the BattleTech universe, the history of the MechWarrior series has spanned nearly two decades with the last installment, MechAssault: Phantom War, released in 2006 on the Nintendo DS. Since then, there have been no news of the franchise largely due to it being left idle by Microsoft, who owned the intellectual property at that time. But thanks to the founder of the now disbanded FASA Corporation that made the original MechWarrior, the licence was negotiated back. Now with the collaboration of Pirahna Games, MechWarrior has returned to the gaming world as an online version.
The background story is set in 3015 near the end of the Third Succession War on the planet Deshler, which predates back to the days before the 1989 MechWarrior. The website is already up and players can reserve their pilot names by simply signing up at www.mwomercs.com. MechWarrior Online is expected to be released mid next year.
